First
and foremost, I want to send some sunshine to Harold Niles, Suzanne Little and
Alta Gardner.
Wow!
This has been a busy month for PYC with events and cruise ins and outs. The
Dinghy Dine Around was well attended on a beautiful summer's eve with 44 folks
and we dined and dinghied enough to make our club proud. After departing on
time from the marina, we started with a mystery stop at Stillwater Distillery
where we were treated to fine vodka, wine and grappa, Cowgirl Creamery cheese
and scrumptious shrimp with dipping sauce; then off to the Apple Box for
excellent salads; followed by delicious entrees at Graffiti; and finally to our
fine little club for a wide selection of desserts and coffee by Petaluma Coffee
& Tea. You can see the fun and frivolity on our imagestation.com.
Next
our First Lady and I hosted our annual Pre-Delta Planning Party at our home. A
good turnout and one of the best potluck feasts yet...thanks to all who
contributed. Libations and such were good too. That same day our Mayor had her
first annual "Mayor's Boat Ride" which culminated in the turning
basin. Heard tell it was a great turnout with around 80 boaters.
Linda
and I returned a few days early from the Delta trip due to work requirements, a
birthday celebration (yes it's true, I'm on Medicare now) and a wedding. But,
we had perfect weather, the best camaraderie and lots of fun before we left. Dave
organized a very nice mix of rafting out and YC hopping. I won't steal his
thunder by writing too much but we did have one of our best cruises. Lightwave
finished off with a 10-hour motor sail, dead into the wind, from Marina West to
Benicia on Monday. We arrived after dark and found it challenging to locate the
harbor entrance. Binoculars saved the day but we will now invest in a mapping
GPS! The motor trip (head winds again) from Benicia to South Beach on Tuesday
took 5 and 1/2 hours and was beautiful and relaxing. Old Lightwave is still
serving us well after 25 years. As of this writing our cruisers are still in
the Delta, preparing for the return to their ports of call.
Upon
our return we discovered that our Nominating Committee, chaired by James
Keller, finished its work and the nominations are be posted on the bulletin
board at PYC per our rules and regs. Be sure to stop by and see who has been
nominated to lead your club for the coming year. Remember, all members will
have a chance to either nominate additional names and/or vote on all nominations
during our Annual General Meeting on October 5th. Be sure to attend.
We want all members to have a role in selecting our clubs leadership.
After
Barry Parkinson's review, the board approved the final touches to our By-Law
Change Proposal and it will also be posted on our bulletin board today. Our
Club Secretary will also broadcast the proposal to all members via email (or post
mail as necessary) per our current by-laws. Please read them before our September 7th general
meeting at which time we will have a general membership vote.
Master
Mariners will cruise in this coming weekend and we look forward to hosting them
and seeing their beautifully crafted boats.
No
new security issues since the gates were installed and patrols are more
diligent.
That's
all folks...Oh yes, be sure to view the two baby pictures on our bulletin board
and guess who the adult versions are. And, our 9/7 meeting dinner will be
Potluck and we'll do the alphabet...e.g. A to G-Meat dish or Casserole, H to
L-Desserts, M to Q-Veggies, R to Z-Salads.
Fair
winds, following seas, happy and safe cruising,
Tom
